Woman of God...do you sometimes feel like youve lost your mind...or youve been so beat down you dont have the strength to fight? Ive got good news for you then! When I am feeling less than adequate I remember the 2 day layover my husband & I had in Paris & the whirlwind days of trying to see everything! But the one thing that still stands out in my mind is The Winged Victory of Samothrace... or Nike of Samothrace. Its a beautiful marble sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike (Victory) at the Louvre. Even though shes lost her head & shes damaged ...her name is Victory...& shes one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world! She embraces elegant grace in spite of her significant damage. Victory has lost her head...literally...draped in marble...her garments appear to fall like silk...her outstretched wings are ready to soar...& although damaged her feet are firmly planted on the rock! Although she is broken...she remains beautiful...at the same time she is both strong & fragile...she is beautiful...not only in spite of her hardship...but because of it. What I love most about this statue is its ability to inspire. When I feel like Im losing my mind...the memory of her reminds me that my heart can carry me through anything! When I’m feeling helpless to be able to help others...she reminds me that I can rely on God’s supernatural work. It’s OK if we are damaged by life’s trials & tribulations & blows...we can still stand strong because God makes His strength known in our weakness. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13
