AUTISM...The Getsons: Today was a forever changing moment for our family as our oldest son Matt lead two readings during the Stations of the Cross in front of his entire school! As many of you know our 12 year old son Matt has an Autism Spectrum Disorder. He has been provided intensive services and researched based interventions since he was 3.5 years of age. All family invasive, financially exhausting, and personally frustrating on many occasions! However, without early intervention that included an outside OT (Melanie Lohwater) and SLP, a great school team at TCES (grades k-5), CARD, the intensive ABA and biomedical interventions, the support of family and friends, and most of all Matts perseverance, Matt would not be where he is today! This year, although nervous, our family made a personal choice based on our Catholic faith and an expectation of further academic enrichment, we chose to remove our children from public school to a private Catholic school! God shows us often we did not make the wrong choice! Both our sons have thrived in this setting and we are forever grateful! Classmates, teachers, parents, and Father Callis reached out to our family and Matt directly today to express how proud they were of him! We are too! This has been along road but the moments we share in the indistinguishability of our son, the hard work he continues to do in order to stay one step ahead, and the love, faith, and kindness he exhibits are all something we never take for granted! Autism is treatable! Matt Getson, you are an amazing handsome boy that never gives up! We love you more than words can say and we will continue to raise AUTISM AWARENESS so that one day we will find a cure for you and others like you!
