Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity Founded in 1947 using WWII barracks - at one point the abbey held 84 monks and novices; now there are only 10 The monasterys Trappist Creamed Honey is well-known. As the average age among the monks increased, farming industries were discontinued. The monastery no longer sells any of its own agricultural products, and most of the land has been leased to other farmers, with proceeds from the lease helping to support the monastery. As of 2014 there are only 10 elderly monks left, and the abbey has begun a multi-year process of shutting down. I have stayed there several times and considered the place hallowed ground. They have an interesting library.I have read more Thomas Merton there than I have at home. They have a 3:30 AM service that is just off of the hall where my retreat bed would be. I am an early riser and it was wonderful to sit in the mezzanine and watch the monks in their morning rituals of song and praise. I consider it a loss that they are closing.
