Accept Where You Are - Day #118 My father’s favorite author is Theodore Roosevelt. He spent his boyhood reading “Teddy’s” books about traveling in Africa, and his days as a cowboy. He was not a healthy young man, and his days in the American West were crucial to his physical and mental well-being. As a young man, Theodore lost both his beloved wife, and his mother, within hours of one another. The grief was insurmountable, and he headed “west” to clear his head, and his heart. “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” are eleven of the finest words ever strung together in a sentence by the man that was to become the 26th President of the United States. They are inspiring and yet pragmatic: they are accepting of where you are at the moment, and allow each of us the option of ‘doing what we can.’ Some days, perhaps even today; you may feel unable to do ‘much’ to allay your sorrows. Maybe all you can do is to eat a healthy meal, or write in your journal. Other days will find you in a different emotional/spiritual place, and more able to heal the hurt. So, take stock of where you are today, and do whatever you can to feel better. Quotation for the Day If you suppress grief too much, it can well redouble. ~Moliere
