According to Buddhism, If hunger is the most severe sickness ( jigaccha parama roga), the Buddha would not promulgate any disciplinary rules for monks as not to take foods at night.. the precept no 6 vikala bhojana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami simply gives the meaning that one (novice) should not take foods at unusual times, not at night... Many have misunderstood the deep meaning of 6th precept and so that many monks have been mislead by it, as a reason they are suffering with some incurable diseases, such as gastritis, diabetics and many more.. so please, think first for every facts in Buddhism, it is not an item that should be grasped at once.. the realization depends on your knowledge & perception.. :)
