Address at Tbilisi State University - Why NATO? Speech: In the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln said the question was whether the nation could exist half-slave or half-free. In 2014 and with the world around us, the question is whether the world will exist half-slave or half-free, whether it will move in the direction of freedom, in the direction of the road that we are taking, or whether it will move in the direction of slavery. One of the main target of Georgias foreign policy represents to join in North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In order to strengthen security and stability Georgian nation has paid a great importance to develop international affairs with the west, since the ancient times. The issue was highlighted numerous times in the history of Georgia. Nowadays, according to the current processes in the world, in society, the demand for gaining a reliable and powerful defense ally is rising day to day and the NATO represents the best example for this issue. Georgian nation has faced new wave of challenges since the collapse of the Soviet Union, including - adaptation to new cultural characteristics, elaborating various strategies and forming relationships to those countries which were under control of above-mentioned social union. It is noteworthy that Georgia participates in different project of NATO dates back to 1992. Collaboration with the Alliance is directly connected to major problem of Georgian national security, which represents a broad concept and furthermore it includes not only military field, but also political, economic and ecological areas. Over and over again, reforms must be carried out occasionally, which will be fully compatible with the major demands and recommendations for joining in the Alliance. It will significantly contribute to the further development of democratic processes in the country. The whole world is observing us whether we will take a right step and become a member of the European family. We have no right to disappoint them, we have no choice to be losers. I fully support joining in NATO, which will be the way for Georgian people to gain victory and the way for Georgia to re-obtain its glory. One for you and you for one, the way of proper life.
