[Admin] So I have been getting a few messages (well more than a few) from readers and media friends about a certain article carried by ASS (I love how that acronym is so apt for this) which was stolen from GSC. Over the past almost 2 years of administering this page, Ive learnt to detect if certain confessions are sent in for the sake of stirring reactions. Over time, various readers have also stepped forth to confide on matters and not too long ago, an ex SAF MSD officer did write in (nothing pertaining to this). So when this entry was sent in, I forwarded to him for comments. Given his forthright response (which Im not at liberty to post), I felt I had to add the disclaimer at the end. The OP in question has not written back either. I am not a fan of the establishment but over-sensationalising the oppression of the gay community in the armed forces is not something I am really comfortable with. Thankfully GSC readers are generally primed to take things with a pinch of salt but when the content is posted elsewhere without context, I worry. Why I take issue with this blog stealing the post from GSC is because they are obviously out to click-bait, without a thought for the consequences of such a serious allegation, made up or not. When they irresponsibly add a picture that had no relation to the post and with clear intentions to mislead and sensationalise, I get pissed. As we push for equal rights, as we demand to be recognised as ordinary citizens no less or no more than another Singaporean, it is important that we do so in a responsible way. The community is not without its flaws and issues but we cannot and should not let trolls and click-baiters hijack the equal rights movement for the sake of something as frivolous and trivial as page views or Likes.
