Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Service (AVES) was opened in March - TopicsExpress

Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Service (AVES) was opened in March of 1986 in response to a need in our local community to provide quality emergency medical care for pets during the “after” hours. The first office was located in Southgate on Dix-Toledo Rd. Within a few years, it was apparent the emergency service needed to expand to accommodate an ever increasing need for emergency pet care. In the fall of 1993, we moved into our newly remodeled, larger facility just around the corner on Northline Rd. Several years later, it became necessary to find yet another, even larger facility. A building was purchased in Allen Park, 3.5 miles north of our Southgate location. Renovations were completed and again, the move was accomplished on February 11, 2010. AVES is the only facility in the downriver area providing emergency and critical care exclusively. Our mission is 1) to provide high quality urgent, emergency and critical care for small companion animals, and 2) to coordinate the medical care provided at the emergency hospital with your primary veterinary clinic. AVES is fully staffed 24/7, with highly competent, compassionate, experienced and dedicated veterinary professionals whose primary interest and commitment is to emergency medical care. AVES is their full time occupation and they work as a team to deliver consistent high-quality emergency and critical care. AVES is a fully equipped emergency hospital that includes: in-house laboratory, pharmacy and state of the art equipment such as Snyder ICU, oxygen generator, digital radiography and ultrasound. While we do not provide preventative or elective health care services (i.e. spays and vaccinations) we are equipped to manage a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions. Patients are seen on a first come first serve basis with critical patients receiving priority. We do not accept appointments. However, a phone call prior to the visit is appreciated and recommended. We do not diagnose or provide specific medical advice over the phone. However, we gladly accept phone calls from any concerned pet owners. In all cases, callers are offered the option to have our veterinarian examine their pet. Primary care veterinarians in the community also refer patients directly to AVES. At the hospital, patients are triaged immediately upon presentation. Thereafter, our veterinarian examines the patient, provides a consultation and treatment care plan. We strive to create and implement a plan that best meets the needs of the pet owner and their pet. Therefore, we strongly encourage and value open communication. When a patient is discharged from our hospital, the pet owner receives a complete copy of their pet’s medical record along with specific instructions for home care. The medical record is also faxed to the primary care veterinarian. As required, the primary care veterinarian provides any additional care and progress exams.
