African Parliamentarians Forum for Development Evaluation - TopicsExpress



          

African Parliamentarians Forum for Development Evaluation initiated Twenty five Parliamentarians from seven countries from the Africa region gathered at the 7th AfrEA conference held in Yaounde, Cameroon and initiated the African Parliamentarians Forum for Development Evaluation. A two day parliamentarians gathering was held on 3rd and 4th March 2014 with support from the African Development Bank, UNICEF, UN Women, EvalPartners and African Evaluation Association (AfrEA). The parliamentarians discussed existing evaluation systems and mechanisms at country levels and highlighted the need for national evaluation policy to ensure accountability, transparency and development results. African parliamentarians also had an opportunity to learn from South Asian experience in engaging parliamentarians in evaluation presented by Hon. Kabir Hashim, leader of the South Asian Parliamentarians Forum for Development Evaluation which led the participants to initiate own forum in Africa. More over on the second of the workshop the parliamentarians broke up in to different groups to deliberate workings of the Forum. Yaounde declaration issued by the newly established forum pledged to strengthen the use of evaluation at national and regional level. It would work towards developing a national evaluation policy in each country in the region. This is the second region which has established a network of parliamentarians for development evaluation.
