After a fantastic ride, on a beautiful, sun drenched, quintessential autumn day, I rode with a great group of riders to celebrate the the chance to take a step against a brutal disease, that 8 years ago claimed my mother and changed my familys life forever. Joined by my sister and my niece and nephew, my lovely partner Rowen, and kids Ollie and Violet, and walk team/crew/riders Danny Hopper, Damien, Darin, Dean, Steven, Ann, Rachel and John, and Vicky...we had a chance to say hi to Mickey the Lions Corn Maze....and visit with many PALS at the walk. The day is still dark with the passing of my mother and as the light hangs long and the memories flood in, I can in some ways still hear the soft, slow pulse of her breathing and find it hanging in the air. My father had put on an album that I had gifted to my mom on Christmas and as it played itself through and silence slipped in, and the only remaining sound was our heartbeats gathered around my mothers slowing breath, we had no idea that the last bit of music she would hear would be Aretha Franklins Amazing Grace from the album of the same name. I play it every year around this time to remember the moment and allow the tears to come. Unlike previous years I have the spirited noises of my own family now sprinkled into the background and I can hear my mothers smile, even as I hurt as I cant share them with her. Please listen and those who knew my mother and loved her, brave the sadness and remember her afresh. She loved us all. youtu.be/Gy9Xnwyhcc0
