After almost 91 years, my mother passed away last night. My nephew wrote and posted the following about my mother and he captured so much of her in this I wanted to share. I was so fortunate to have her in my life for so long. So much of who I am is because of her. I will sign off as she always did...love you, miss you, Bye! _________ Marilyn Buys Agee, a great-grandmother, lifelong learner and adopted Texan, passed away early this morning, a few days short of her 91st birthday. Born into a family of intellectuals, she was very close to her father, a professor at Saint Lawrence University in upstate New York. It was there she came to love winter sports and became an accomplished downhill skier, raining for a shot at the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team. A member of Delta Delta Delta womens fraternity (sorority), she interrupted her studies to serve in the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II, offering her services as an instructor to young pilots through the use of a revolutionary electronic video projection system that could simulate dogfights through the use of light beams. After the war, she married the love of her life, Jesse “Ray” Agee, and the two were inseparable until his passing in 1991. Continuing her love of learning and public service, Marilyn became a teacher, a career she followed until retirement and continued as a frequent volunteer and active member of the Arlington, Texas community. She was a prolific knitter, producing countless blankets for hospital patients, as well as scarves, towels and other linens for family and friends. Marilyn was a passionate reader, very fond of biographies and historical books as well as the entire “Harry Potter” series. She avidly played bridge, NERTS and other card games until her eyes and hands no longer allowed her to do so. Marilyn is survived by her sister, four daughters, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. “Now run along home, and jump into bed; say your prayers, and cover your head. The very same thing I say unto you: You dream of me, and I’ll dream of you.” I’ll miss you, Grandma Agee. I Love you Mom!
