After much thought, discussion, and consideration, PianoForte Chicago with the PianoForte Foundation Board of Directors and leadership have made the decision to withdraw our participation in the 2014 International Beethoven Festival (IBP). Our decision is not a reflection on the high level of artistry demonstrated in the IBP or the artistic vision of the festival’s director, George Lepauw. However, until the controversy that has gained wide attention in Chicago, New York and Europe regarding IBPs financial commitments to its artists in the 2013 Festival is resolved, we must take action that is consistent with our own values and objectives. PianoForte Chicago and PianoForte Foundation strongly support the artistic community and the high caliber of musicians in Chicago and beyond – many of whom perform in our own season concert series. PianoFortes promise to the community is and always has been to promote a vibrant piano culture with musicians who echo our commitment to the work and to support each other.
