After nearly 18 months of campaigning with Unions and staff of DHBs ( mostly by leaks!)the new minister of health has decided to abandon HBL the bloated new bureaucracy created by the government to make savings in the health sector. The savings were actually made by the DHBs themselves, the relationships with the health sector were dysfunctional, openness and transparency by the organisation was a joke, the previous minister mislead the public and the cost of failure is money straight off the health budget. On the 7th of November the new minister said it was all the way with HBL, 2 weeks later he pulls the plug. His decision is right his rhetoric is pure cant. He has been forced to admit no $300 million savings. The only success he can mention is latex gloves and banking. These savings have been counted so many times there is enough money flowing back into government coffers to pay off the National debt! Well done especially SFWU for tenacity, Josh Foreman from Slightlyleftofcentre blog for breaking the disestablishment and to Labour for pursuing this issue through the House and in the media.
