After playing our Bismarck, ND show I was approached by Dave Anthony about using a few of our songs in a video he and a friend, Kristine Kostuck, were working on. Not only was Bismarck one of my favorite shows on tour, overwhelming us all with genuine people fans and new friends, but many things that Dave and Kristine are bringing to light with this video are extremely important. I am very happy to have said yes, and am now able to share it with all of you in hopes of spreading its message along with a thought or two of my own. The pressures put on women by mainstream media is atrocious. More importantly it is a social norm for women, for PEOPLE, to hate and/or want to change their bodies and appearance. Not only is it being shoved down our throats by magazines, TV, social media, ect ect ect... but it can also be equally reinforced by our peers and those we trust, by the very people who should be protecting and loving us for who we are. Luckily, through living amidst the community that is Olympia, WA, I have been able to surround myself with support, as well as support those around me. It is a community filled with individuals, friends, and family who want to destroy the idea that your body makes you who you are, that the physicality of a person is all that matters, and bettering your appearance for anyone but yourSELF is what will lead to a happier life. It doesnt! Ever! Most importantly, after viewing this video and hearing our music accompany what it addresses, I have discovered new meanings in the songs themselves. I am humbled to know that music is not always concrete, that it is constantly changing through those who listen, the context, and the artist. It is truly amazing, powerful, and important to be able to share our songs and feelings with people like Dave and Kristine, as well as all of you. Thank you.
