After researching Wilt Chamberlain Ive come to find out that at 7 ft tall and 275 pounds he ran the equivalent of a 4.4 forty yard dash (faster than LeBron by .2 seconds), and had a vertical leap that circled 50 inches (greater than MJ by 2 inches). This is coming from multiple websites data collected. He also reportedly benched 550 pounds at one point in his life but most of the data agrees it was closer to 500. 50-100 pounds more than Shaqs max at 450. Assuming this is true and his numbers arent fraudulent, then there is without a doubt he is the greatest player in NBA history. Better than MJ (no offense). MJ scored over 50 points thirty seven times while Wilt did it over forty times in just one season. Bill Russell considered to be the greatest defender of his time got torched by Chamberlain statistically scoring more than 50 points against him 6 times. And 62 against him in one effort. While Russell won 11 titles to Wilts 2 it is fair to say that Russell played with 7 hall of famers while Wilt played with 0. Hmmmm... interesting. The 60s also included the two most winning championship teams in the Celtics and UCLA bruins. The Celtics won 9 championships in the 60s and the Bruins 9 between 1964-73. Two more fun facts. In the early sixties Wilt averaged 50 ppg while Walt Bellamy had a season averaging 38 and Elgin Baylor 32. All three players by the late sixties saw that average drop significantly. Wilt at age 35 in the early 70s saw his scoring average drop all the way down to 13 ppg due to the influx of greater competition such as kareem abdul jabbar. What is to be taken from all this? Well, Im not sure. Its a mysterious time period i think. The numbers seem farfetched and hard to believe as credible. I guess well never know. One thing for sure is that Wilt played with a far inferior supporting cast against Russell. Wilt is definitely the better player between the two. Their head to head numbers spell disaster for Russell in terms of per game stats. Russell just saw more success from a team stand point because of his all star cast. I personally think the 60s were dominated by a few dominate players ahead of their time while the rest of the league tried to catch up. Thats why the numbers seem to be so skewed. I wish we could throw Russell and Wilt into the 80s. That seems to be where they belonged in terms of style of play. Well... Goodnight.
