After seeing so many people complaining about NS and all, I - TopicsExpress

After seeing so many people complaining about NS and all, I decided to share a view of mine. To start with, I dont really like to serve NS. 2 golden years of our lives, given a choice, i may not choose to serve voluntarily. BUT, the fact is, without conscription, Singapore wouldnt be the same. Our grandparents served, our parents served, our brothers served, why shouldnt we? You may argue that times have changed, Singapore shouldnt have conscription. I too understand, those young sportsmen losing their golden years training, unable to become better while they are young etc. BUT, for most of us, what do we seriously have to lose? Yes, we lose our precious time. Yes, we get crap allowance (depending on rank and vocation ) . We are afterall, giving back 2 years of our lives, to a country that we stayed in and owed. We all , to a variation of extent, stayed well in Singapore. What I mean by well, is that we dont have to worry about wars, conflicts between countries, worry that much about crimes etc. Yes, we worry about inflation, cost of living etc. But , that is economically. Thats still better compared to some countries, which have gender discrimination, racial discrimination. In Singapore, we are living in a bubble, as the saying goes the grass is always greener on the other side . My wise Encik told me, the reason for our worries and all, is , to a certain extent, greed. I agree with him partially. While in NS, with crap allowance , treatment etc, NS gave us an important life lesson. Life is unfair, live with it. You gain some, you lose some. Dont expect to gain benefits without returning. NS is sort of a repayment to SG, no matter how you see it. NS unfair treatment and all? In the future working life etc, your job wont be Fair and Impartial. Be in PES A, B, C, D, E , or Officer, Sergeant, corporal etc, serve your 2 years in however way you want. After 2 years, if you dont like it, get your pink IC, and get out. If you like, sign on. We should be proud, that we still gave up 2 years, which if voluntarily, we may not. Yeah, girls dont serve NS, but they may not be into that singapore NS culture that we men go through!
