After sitting amongst other travelers for the continental breakfast in the morning we made friends with Jakob who was backpacking throughout Vietnam like many others. We joined together in exploring the largest city in Vietnam. It was interesting comparing it with the city of Bangkok as Ho Chi Minh defiantly had a western influence and was much cleaner then Bangkok. We walked around a popular local market while Vietnamese swarmed you to buy their products (many of which are the same items that you can buy in Thailand as well). Jakob had insight of a really tasty Vietnamese restaurant so we all jumped in a cab (cars are on the right side again!) And headed to the other side of town. We ended up trying our first Vietnamese pancake called a Bánh xèo. It is commonly filled with rice flour, water, turmeric powder, stuffed with slivers of fatty pork, shrimp, diced green onion, and bean sprouts. All of which you wrap in lettuce mint leaves, basil, fish leaf and/or other herbs. Needless to say, it was delicious!
