After watching numerous shows about the cosmos, I would like to figure out this hypothesis. If any galaxy is moving away from us, what is the true distance that actual galaxy is now? For example, Messier 82 (Cigar Galaxy or M82) is about 12 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Light took roughly 12 million years to get here; however, our galaxy and theirs are either moving towards each other or away. In the 12 million years at the rate of the speed that galaxy is moving, the actual distance wont be 12 million light years. Even if you could travel at the speed of light, at 12 million years, that galaxy wont be there. What is the time it would take to actually get there?
