Agbeko in line for Rigondeaux fight Former bantamweight world champion, Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko is in line for a possible December showdown against unified junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux Citi Sports can confirm. Agbeko’s last fight was an unimpressive win over Colombian Luiz Melendez in Accra but has struggled to land a fight on the big stage since. His last televised bout in the United States was a loss to Abner Mares and his camp is hopeful of landing a fight against the premier fighter in the division even though they would not comment on record. In April, Guillermo Rigondeaux outpointed Nonito Donaire to unify junior featherweight world titles. Although it wasn’t a crowd-pleasing performance, Rigondeaux’s talent is undeniable but his defensive style has meant HBO have been unwilling to stage fights with him. Promoter Bob Arum is however hopeful that an opponent will be named by the end of the week. “We’re working on a good fight,” Arum said, declining to name the prospective opponent. However, Arum did say it would not be Chris Avalos, a name floated recently as a possible Rigondeaux opponent but understandably declined by HBO. Hearts coach David Duncan defends goal-shy striker Selaisie Adjei Hearts of Oak coach David Duncan has jumped to the defence of new striker Selaisie Adjei – insisting he is a quality player despite not impressing in the derby defeat to Asante Kotoko. Adjei, who was brought in from Amidaus Professionals during the off-season is yet to open his Premier League account. Many have touted the striking instinct of the swift forward after scoring ten league goals last season. But he failed to show even glimpses of his touted qualities – leading to his early substitution from Sunday’s defeat to Asante Kotoko. But coach David Duncan remains confident in the potential of his new striker – saying one bad game cannot be used as a measuring rod. “I got him recruited into the team and based on that I have confidence in him,” he said.“You don’t judge a player by just a single game.” Kotoko ace Yahaya Mohammed calm on goal drought Asante Kotoko utility player Yahaya Mohammed is not getting bogged down by poor finishing despite missing glorious chances to open his season’s account against Hearts of Oak. The 25-year-old was named Man of the Match in Sunday’s victory over Hearts at the Accra Sports Stadium primarily for his impressive link up play.Last season’s loanee at Amidau Professionals however missed absolute sitters to get onto the score-sheet for Kotoko on Sunday as his goal drought continues. Mohammed’s wastefulness has come as a shock to many after raking in 11 goals last season. But the dread-locked forward believes it is only a matter of time for him to regain his magic touch in front of goal again. “As a footballer, I cannot get a goal in every match so if I missed this chance it doesn’t mean I cannot get goals again,” he said. “So next time I will be tactically disciplined to get the goals.”
