Ah, the party line. Heres the email we just received in response to our email to the governor: Thank you for your letter to Governor McAuliffe concerning the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The Governor requested that I respond on his behalf. The proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline will provide tremendous economic benefits to the Commonwealth. In the short-term, thousands of jobs will be created during the permitting and construction phase. Over the long-term, this pipeline will provide much-needed local and state tax revenue, lower energy costs for consumers, and spur economic development in many parts of Virginia that need jobs. This pipeline will also provide the Commonwealth with a cleaner source of energy that will reduce carbon emissions. We take seriously our responsibility to ensure that the pipeline is constructed in a way that will protect Virginia’s natural resources. We will work closely with all of the Commonwealth’s environmental and conservation stakeholders throughout the construction process to ensure that Dominion and their partners construct the line in a manner that protects sensitive areas and historic and cultural places. This is an extension of the Governor’s longstanding commitment to protecting Virginia’s environment; he continues to oppose mining of uranium in Southside, any fracking activity in the George Washington National Forest, and has signed the most sweeping comprehensive agreement to protect the Chesapeake Bay ever created. This proposed pipeline is an energy superhighway that has the potential to make Virginia the manufacturing hub of the mid-Atlantic, improve our carbon footprint, and bring significant economic development to help build a new Virginia economy. It is important to the Governor that every Virginian’s voice is heard, and it is valuable for him to know of the concerns of citizens across the Commonwealth. Again, thank you for your input. I hope that you will continue to provide Governor McAuliffe your views on matters affecting the Commonwealth.
