Ahhhh, life on the farm. Many think it is a bucolic setting that allows one to live a simplier life. Yes, it is great to see the stars in all their glory at night, to get to see animals up close, but then...... there are the bugs. In the country, the bugs always find a way to remind you that mankind might consider itself on the top of the pyramid, the bugs just have a different idea at to what pyramid we are talking about. I found myself out fixing the electric fence around the house, the dog got interested in something in the vegetable garden and I cleared some brush around the fence. I finally went to see what had the dogs attention, found the Blue bird box had fallen over (rotted post) and that there was also a dead baby bunny near the bird box. I dont think the dog did the deed with the bunny, but, she sure wanted to check it out. Of course in finding all this out I had to wade thru some bushes in the garden. Two days later I have over 50+ bites from chiggers, mostly between my knees and my waist. Must have encountered a nest of the wonderful terror of nature. The bites are all near dime sized and look just wonderful. Marie says I look diseased. For those who have never had the pleasure of being bitten, feel fortunate as the bites itch like crazy. Ticks are almost just as fun, but at least you can see them.
