Albay to celebrate Literacy Week, Sept. 8-17 The Provincial Education Department (PED) of the Provincial Government of Albay has lined-up several activities for the province’s celebration of this year’s Literacy Week which will open on September 8 at the People’s Hall, Albay Capitol. On the opening day program, Board Member Richard Benjamin Imperial, chairman, Committee on Education at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay (SPA) will give his welcome message. Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda is expected to deliver an inspirational message which will highlight the significant gains of the province in education the most notable of which is the impressive performance of Albay schools in last year’s National Achievement Test (NAT). Albay Poet Laureate and Commissioner Abdon M. Balde of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino will Read Aloud a Poem while Department of Education (DepEd) Region V Director Ramon Fiel Abcede will be the Keynote Speaker. With the theme, “Education in the 21st Century,” the opening day celebration will also highlight the launching of the Provincial Education News Express (PEN) and the Read-a-thon contest on September 8. Other activities include a Seminar-Workshop on Newswriting on September 9 at the People’s Hall and A Literacy Forum on September 17 at the Albay Astrodome.
