Alex writes: Im at a small alternative high school with mostly at-risk students (in poverty, experiencing homelessness, parenting teens, minority backgrounds, etc.). One of our biggest challenges is attendance. If we could just get the kids to show up regularly, and keep them on campus, then we could do so much more for them. Our school doesnt currently have a counseling program (I have a counseling license, but have never practiced before, and am currently the workforce coordinator), but I would like to research ways to improve attendance. Im thinking of things like incorporating school-based rituals, creating a better sense of school unity, and generally just improving the feel of the school for the students. We have a wonderful, supportive, PBIS-style program, but Im looking for more. Any books, websites, videos, anything that I should look into? Share your ideas and resources below!
