Ali is my niece and she is the youth honoree for the Jingle Bell Run in Las Vegas this December. If you really want to buy something on Black Friday that will make a difference lets help find a cure. Click the link to donate to her team. Youth Honoree - Alithea McDermott Alithea was diagnosed with JIA at 16 months old. She woke up one morning and was unable to walk on her right leg anymore. Her right knee was the first joint to be affected. Over several months, we saw 11 different doctors. Over the three months it took to officially diagnose her with JIA she went from being an almost running toddler to one that could no longer walk or even crawl. Alithea was hospitalized after she began urinating blood and endured multiple procedures to help diagnose her. She has four joints affected by her arthritis. She went through a year of physical therapy to regain strength and motion in her joints. She takes Enbrel injections, methotrexate pills and occasionally naproxen. We have not reached a point of remission and are not sure when or if that will ever come, but for now she can walk and run again.
