Almost 10 years ago, the European Space Agency shot the Rosetta - TopicsExpress

Almost 10 years ago, the European Space Agency shot the Rosetta spacecraft into space, where it began a very long journey towards a comet called Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Early tomorrow morning, Rosetta will expel a tiny lander named Philae, which will attempt - for the first time in history - a soft landing on the face of a comet. This is EXTRAORDINARILY difficult, as the comet has a powerful magnetic field, is constantly expelling waves of dust, and will be spinning incredibly fast. Heres a pretty neat video detailing the mission: https://youtube/watch?v=D5iyZTXiX78 And heres a really freaky sound clip of the oscillations in the comets magnetic field: https://soundcloud/esaops/a-singing-comet Pretty amazing. Anyway, this things scheduled to touch down on the comet around 10:35 a.m. tomorrow OR crash and burn, and the space agencys ten years of hopes and dreams will go poof! Ones as likely as the other. Watch nasa.gov to hear updates.
