Although I grew up in Bozeman with Peter, it has been almost 10 - TopicsExpress

Although I grew up in Bozeman with Peter, it has been almost 10 years since I’ve had the pleasure of living in the beautiful state of Montana so, subsequently, I was only able to spend a handful of nostalgic PBR nights with Peter and his/our incredible group of friends on homebound holidays. Nonetheless, as all of his friends and family know, Peter wasn’t someone you could encounter without him making a profoundly encouraging impact on you. I thought I’d share a not-so-recent and a bit different memory/story of the man Peter encapsulated for me during an epically awkward time in high school (2004). Now, I was probably more high strung than most teenagers in my class so needless to say I was worried I wouldn’t get asked to my very first prom by some great guy who, frankly, at least wasn’t entirely socially inept and/or would actually show up. Imagine: I’m leaning against a wall after class waiting for someone I can’t remember to finish picking someone up from their locker when 16 year old, no fear Peter shouts in an outrageous volume literally down the entire Junior hall “Yo Lexi! You. Me. Prom. It’s happening. Yeah buddy!” I mean - it wasnt really asking but still, how could I refuse? In a series of bad wardrobe decisions I can try to blame on youth, I wore this ridiculously bright yellow, ridiculously humungous dress that any sane person would have turned on their heels to run away at the sight of me – except Peter showed up in his matching ridiculous yellow tux with that contagiously big smile of his, not a care in the world. I’ll never forget not being able to see him (or anyone else) in the car with my giant yellow dress taking up every inch of space, but hearing him laugh and yell, “guys, this is gunna be a great night!” (Maybe with more profanities but you get the gist.) Thank you Peter for being that confident, fun prom hero and for always being a friend. Thinking about the amazing group of people he called friends (miss you guys), his family and Madeleine. Eternal cheers to Peter Maxwell; what a guy.
