Amy Watts: Celebrity friends rally for cancer-stricken showbusiness reporter from Bury Celebrity pals have come to the aid of a Bury-raised showbusiness reporter who is battling cancer. Amy Watts, 37, was diagnosed with colon cancer in August and it had already spread to her liver. She’s had chemotherapy but doctors in Los Angeles, where she was working as a showbusiness reporter, told her they couldn’t operate to remove the cancer. After a second opinion from a UK doctor, she will undergo two operations at a private hospital in Leeds in February. She flew back to the UK last week to prepare for the operation and has been amazed to find friends had started a fund-raising campaign for the £100,000 she needs to pay for the treatment. Some £35,000 has already been raised with help from celebrity friends including pop mogul Simon Cowell. Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue, TOWIE’s Jessica Wright and Ricky Rayment, and boxer Audley Harrison are among the other celebs who have backed the campaign.
