Hill Dance Academy Theatre now Accepting Nominations for HDAT Youth Champions in the Arts Award (Pittsburgh, PA) -- On Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Thelma Lovette YMCA on Centre Avenue, Hill Dance Academy Theatre (HDAT), from 5 to 9 PM, will host its first Annual Gala Fundraiser, celebrating Youth Champions in the Arts. One young artist in Dance, Music and Theatre, who is doing outstanding work in the arts, but is unknown, will be selected as HDAT’s First Youth Champions in the Arts. Nominations are now being accepted. Champions may be nominated by the following groups and/or individuals…youth serving organizations, teachers, parents, pastors, and anyone who knows of a young person(s) 15-20 years of age who are doing the following… · Developing artistry in Dance, Music (voice & instrumental), Theater · Young people who are unknown in the Arts public scene · Young people are eligible from the greater Pittsburgh community Eligibility & Nominations for Youth Champions in the Arts… · Ages …15 to 20 years of age & resident of Pittsburgh & Greater Pittsburgh region · Nominated by a teacher, community leader, parent, minister, community youth organization · Nominators must write a letter stating how the nominee meets the Eligibility requirements for the Nomination… o Individuals whose efforts have impacted the arts in their communities o Unsung…using art form to enhance and improve the quality of life in their communities, schools, churches o Have a portfolio of work or demonstrate the nominated area of art work o The young artists work affirms the Mission of HDAT o Nominees must write an essay between 250-500 words about themselves, their art form and work, and submit a copy of their school transcript Award Committee reviews nominations/conducts interviews with selected candidates · Application guidelines can be found at 5678hdat.org & on HDAT’s Facebook page · Letters of nominations & essays are due on by Mon., September 2 @ 11:59 pm · Send nominations to [email protected] or mail to HDAT, 2900 Bedford Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219 The Youth Champions in the Arts Awardees will receive the “HDAT Artist Platform”… · The Youth Champions will be featured as Artists throughout the year in all HDAT programs from September 2013 through August 2014 · The Youth Champions will be paired with local Master Artists who will Mentor them in Dance, Music and Theater · The Youth Champions will develop a production piece, in their selected area, that they will then perform in concert with HDAT dancers · The Youth Champions will participate in 2014 8 Week Summer Dance Intensive as an Intern and Youth Champion Teaching Artist in their area of the Arts · HDAT’s Artist Platform provides the 3 Youth Champions an opportunity to develop their artistic talents & work with professional artists throughout greater Pittsburgh and beyond ABOUT HDAT HDAT’s mission is to develop and train dancers in Black dance traditions, expand knowledge and contributions of Black Dance Traditions and create emerging Dance Artists who will sustain Black Dance in the Black community. HDAT’s developmentally designed curriculum is rooted in Black Traditions of Dance.
