An OLD RANT. SOME FACTs PEOPLE MIGHT LIKE TO CONSIDER. “”YOUR PHOTOS””, ARE THE INTERNETS PRIMARY CURRENCY They are like money on the internet and some may use them to make money while you may freely give them away as if this proven value was not right in front of your nose. Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Mobli, and Even Myspace is now moving to a new system to more effectively deal with “”YOUR MEDIA””. These sites are set up to USE YOUR PHOTOS to attract an audience and if they do not have these features they fail. Your images have a huge value in the world as they the Internets engine uses them as fuel. Without them we would just be using bulletin boards or twitters with larger text messages. It is YOUR images that have this huge value to these huge web sites. It is not an amazing photo of a tree a flower or a dog but a photo of YOU and you are what creates the value in the images you share. If this does not persuade you that the worlds demand for images and video is higher than it ever was, I do not know how to hit you on the head with a bigger hammer. The image of YOU is what has the enormous value and the way the internet works is the people or business with the most photos WINS, not the best photos but the most photos. So I remain amongst the most popular photographers fan pages on facebook, and it is not because I do not put logos on my photos, or police and report all offenders I find, or refuse the give them away without payment, it is because I have a huge number of pretty nice looking photos. IT IS BECAUSE I RETAIN their value and they can only be seen by visiting my pages. I hear so many photographers complaining that they find it difficult to make money in this business and this new world where cameras are built into every device and there is a proliferation of shitty images. The reality is the world should be and IS, more willing to see the value of great flattering images instead of the photos that actually victimize so many relatively attractive people. When someone saves your image to their hard drive and recreates a new version they have stolen your property. When they share your photos and videos they do not steal the property but in fact enhance its value to you. A stolen item is lost and you have lost control of it, while a shared photo remains within your control and is always leads to your page or profile, so you will reap any rewards that image offers. If your a photographer or a model with pretty images many people will ask you to give them a copy for their web site or FB pages etc. They are not sharing your photo and promoting you as they might promise, but instead stealing it and taking its potential for advertising their own interest. The reason I wrote this is to remind everyone no matter if your a professional photographer or model or just an amateur do the industry a favor or value and protect you own images, from those who flatter you to achieve your wealth. Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Mobli, and Myspace are great tools to help share you products and enhance your value but they will never do anything to save you from your own lack of self worth or inability to find value int eh images they find so valuable. It is “”YOUR MEDIA”” and the image of YOU that has value so keep it to yourself and make it work for YOU. I have been preaching this for years and getting better at making my case each time I try. PS: To those who have asked me to give them my photos or believed they were helping me by taking them I need to tell you I understand as that is the way of the older world and times and understanding changes slowly. The fact is that since I began my FB page very few people who offered to “take” my photos to promote my business have demonstrated that I might receive anything of value in return. No offense.
