An endorsement from Chuck Decoster, Parent: I am a graduate of Mahtomedi High School class of 1997. I was born and raised in the Mahtomedi area, went on to attend the University of St. Thomas, then, The Carlson School of Management. Today I am employed by 3M Company. Last year, I returned to live in the area with my wife and four children. The principle reason for this choice was for my children to have access to the same fine education I was fortunate enough to receive. In order to continue the high degree of excellence in our schools, it is imperative that the November levy passes. While I am in favor of the levy for several reasons, I will focus on the fiscal reasons. The Mahtomedi School District is a very fiscally responsible institution that has been experiencing budget cuts year after year. It has skillfully and prudently allocated its financial resources to the proper locations in order to maintain its position as a top ranked school in the state. It has managed to spend within its budgeted means, which have been decreasing year after year, while delivering outstanding educational services to our kids. It has been made very clear that if the levy were to fail this November, the school district will not be able to withstand the resulting further budget cuts without severely damaging the quality of its educational offerings and services. To me, this is not an issue of a greedy, wasteful public institution looking for extra funding to make up for its inefficiencies. It is the matter of a frugal and efficient school district that can longer keep scaling back without losing the reputation of excellence it has held for years. I for one would like to see the school district receive the funding it needs to continue delivering the finest education this state has to offer to our kids. Please join me in voting YES for our kids and our community. Source: White Bear Press, Letters to the Editor
