An inner-city neighborhood children’s pool had been closed for 2 yrs. City workers painted the pool and filled it with water then opened it, to the delight and excitement of the children. Unfortunately, sometime later most of the neighborhood parents were so furious because their children had cuts on their feet. The workmen had not cleaned the pool before painting; they had spray-painted over glass and other debris on the pool bottom! See, when we look out only for our own interests, become preoccupied with how others perceive us, when we become full of ourselves, full of empty promises, full of selfish motives, we become as sharp as broken glass! Our efforts to make ourselves look good are nothing more than a bad “paint job!” Jesus promised that, “He who humbles himself will be exalted.” Mt.23:12
