An open letter to Robin Williams If I could write a letter to Robin Williams, it may not sound politically correct, and I would probably gain quite a bit of negativity from it but this is what it might sound like. Dear Mr. Williams, I was so profoundly sad to hear of the loss of your life. But I understand. Im one of the people who *gets it*. I also have and currently am battling depression, I understand. No, I dont know the specifics, what was going on in your mind, your exact thoughts. But I do know the pain you were feeling. The hopelessness and possibly the guilt. I know in my heart that the decision to end your life was not ultimately yours, and I know that if there were another choice to be had, you would have taken it. This world lost one truly amazing person, and everyone is feeling it. In losing you, you have brought to the publics attention how very real and how very serious depression is, and just how common suicide is. As much as I would rather you still be here today, I want to say thank you for bringing this debilitating illness into awareness. Perhaps people who dont understand the seriousness of all of this will begin to educate themselves, or at least become more aware that it is VERY real, and it doesnt just effect all of us nobodies living in this world. I want to thank you also for making me more aware of my depression, and the suicidal thoughts that have personally hindered my outlook on life and death for the past 17 years. I am deeply saddened regarding the pain that losing you has left to the world. Im incredibly sorry for your loved ones. And in saying that, you have brought to light for me personally how much this would effect those who love me, and for that I cant thank you enough, because of that I realize that I can hang on for one more day, or moment by moment if need be.
