An update regarding the dog that attacked our sheep a couple of days ago and the resulting discussion on this page: Lives In Metchosin, as per your request to remove the photo of the dog as you are worried about somebody shooting it as your daughter walks it, I have done so. I think it would be highly unlikely for somebody to take such vigilante action and shoot a dog that is on a leash and being walked by a child. I could not figure out how to hide the photo without deleting the whole thread so have hidden the post. Those who have been commenting will see your comments and the update I posted, and as the post has been shared many times, it will still be out there, just not on this page. Others made the comments about shooting dogs, not us, (we dont even have a gun) although there are other farmers near you that would very likely shoot your dog if she got into their sheep and chased them. I did also point out that your dog was not likely the one seen at Metchosin and Happy Valley. As somebody else commented, a dog just chasing sheep can do a lot of damage and yours actually had one of our ewes in her jaws. It has been our sad experience that once a dog has done this it is extremely difficult for an owner to keep them from escaping to do it again. If your dog gets away from you again, I would appreciate it if you would let us know right away so that we can warn the owner of that property to watch our sheep until we can get there, in case she comes back to attack them. (We do not ourselves live at that location and it will take us at least ten minutes to get there.) The fact that your dog so quickly proceeded to chase our sheep the one time she got away from you makes me suspect that she has done this sort of thing before at her previous home, and perhaps that is why her former owners gave her up. Right after I took the photo of her she took off like a shot after a rabbit or a bird in those bushes behind her. A pet that chases rabbits and sheep may not be the best choice for a family that lives in the countryside.
