Analysis Paralysis (AP) I have heard this term come up a lot - TopicsExpress

Analysis Paralysis (AP) I have heard this term come up a lot lately. Many, even most, seem to view heavy analysis as a black mark. Am I completely alone in the fact that I enjoy games where heavy analysis comes into play? Granted, I am an avid chess player and analysis and calculation are the name of the game… well “chess” is the name of the game, but you know what I mean… Don’t get me wrong I don’t think heavy analysis is appropriate for all situations. If the game or the group calls for light, fast, or loose play then so be it. If however the situation does allow for some thought then I am all for it! I think two player games may come off better for this in most cases. For me this is not because I don’t want to wait for three people to make their move but because the more players there are the more uncertainty there is. With one opponent I can reasonably predict what the board will look like on my next turn and use the time to get a head start on my thinking. With more… that is much more difficult. Also with two players there is the option of adding a game clock as you would in chess and that can be the solution to the time management portion of the game. (note to self: look and see if anyone makes a four player game clock app) If anyone was wondering, the main place where this came up was in reading/watching reviews for Five Tribes. I think the game looks awesome! It looks like a fun play with four players but also an exceptional game with only two. It looks like it could be equally fun played loose or allowing for some thought. What are your thoughts on AP?
