Ancient Family Cover-Up? I have an ancestor who according to family lore was just an infant when her family got caught up in the Wyoming Valley Massacre of 1778. Her father was a soldier and was killed. She and her mother survived by hiding in a hollow tree. The photo of this woman suggests another story. Another ancestor in the 1640s also supposedly survived an Indian attack by hiding in a hollow tree. (Penelope Stout legend is hard to believe). Anna Parkers father is nowhere to be found in what Ive gleaned from Ancestry. Her mother is supposed to be Abigail Garlinghouse of New Jersey and I can find others who could be her brothers, but not her. Anna named a daughter Abigail. Anna looks like she could be Native American. What I wonder is if families of the Colonial Era made up cover stories about less than white bread northern European origins or other family members.
