And Caleb STILLED the people before Moses, and said, Let us GO UP at ONCE, and POSSESS it; for we are WELL ABLE to OVERCOME it. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we...saying..there we saw the giants...and we were in OUR OWN SIGHT as GRASSHOPPERS, and so WE WERE in their SIGHT..And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried...and MURMURED against Moses...Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! were it not BETTER for us to RETURN into Egypt?...And they said one to another, Let us MAKE A CAPTAIN, and let us return into Egypt. Num. 13:30--Num. 14:4 Here in the span of a few verses of Scripture, we hear the majority and the minority report! The masses began grumbling against their leaders; much like the rumblings we hear today coming from the backrooms of many board meetings, where elders and deacons rear their ugly hearts of unbelief and pencil in their vote of no confidence towards their leaders; all because, they have a GRASSHOPPER mentality! Their doubt leads to the decision to “MAKE A NEW CAPTAIN”; one, who will lead them back to Egypt! They desire to appoint a CAPTAIN who will guide them back through the desert, part the Red Sea, and help them cross over and ask Pharaoh to enslave them again! There are many important lessons to be learned here! One, we must realize how blessed we are! They were closer to the Promised Land than they had ever been before; but because everything was not perfect, they were ready to give up, when, in reality, they stood at the very edge of receiving Gods promise! Two, weve got to resist the GRASSHOPPER mentality! This inferiority complex is nothing but a viral infection caused by a victim spirit and contradicts everything the Scriptures tell us about who we are in Christ! Three, we must not grab our Bibles and go church hopping every time theres a worship song played that dont fit your fancy or every time a sermon hits to close to home. People who have trouble moving forward with the vision, usually find it very difficult staying where they are! If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with MILK and HONEY Num. 14:8 One of the problems we have today is; many are so busy looking for the SILK and MONEY, theyve overlooked the MILK and HONEY!
