And another day begins... One of the reasons I love science fiction is because it has taught me to look at others who are different, not with disdain, fear or bigotry, but rather with fascination and curiosity and compassion. Yes, there are aliens among us. With different skin and hair color, and cultures and beliefs, and if I were ever to be given the opportunity to explore the universe, I must develop a respect for all living things. Even those who have greater or lesser sentience, or that may at first seem confusing or even disgusting to my limited view of existence. Every molecule of this universe is worthy of our respect. To fail to offer that respect would only mark me as unworthy of existing in this universe. We are far from being ready to reach out into the vastness, not because of limited technology, but due to limited compassion. and limited acceptance of what we do not want to understand.
