And now the 10 books which I didnt include in the previous lists but have impacted my life in significant ways. Arooj Nazir Tipu Salman Makhdoom 1. Shogun by James Clavell. Mind blowing introduction to Japanese civilization and history. 2. One hundred years of solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Shook me to the core. Another favorite of mine is the Chronicle of a death foretold. 3. Midaq Alley by Naguib Mahfouz. He takes you straight to Cairo streets where the story is set. Simply brilliant. 4. How Europe underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney. A devastating blow to the concept of underdevelopment and a scathing indictment of slavery and colonialism. 5. Two essays on analytical psychology by C G Jung. Also archetypes of the collective unconscious. 6. The Onion: our dumb century. An insanely hilarious look at history. I strongly recommend the onion to all my friends. It will.lighten up your lives with silly humor. 7. Name of the Rose. By Umberto Eco. A historical thriller based on the life of William of Occom. 8. Baal i Jibreel. Gabriel s Wing. By Iqbal. An inspiring and inspired collection of Iqbals poetry. 9. Masnavi maulana Rum. Rumis collection of tales: an explanation of the Holy Quran. 10. The archaeology of knowledge. By Michael Foucault. And other works. His critique of psychiatry and modernity is simply brilliant. I took the liberty of mentioning 30 books in all because I am the oldest among you guys so 10 books for each decade would make it 50. The other 20 would follow soon.
