And why did PM Modi choose to address students on teachers day? Through the year, its reports galore about teachers beating up students (to death at times). More teachers treat students as a vent of their personal frustrations. More teachers are teaching because of the pay packet, or because they werent accepted in other professions. Every nukkad konaa of every city has a school which calls itself world class public school. With such a deluge, you need a deluge of teachers too which of course is not available. No wonder then majority of the teachers dont have half the knowledge of the subject they are teaching. I personally know so many teachers who teach English & speak the I does English. And I wont even get into other subjects. This is in Delhi. Its worse in smaller cities. What about all that? Every teachers day, students are filled with the respect your teacher gyaan. Students will respect teachers anyway, for love or for fear. Modi could have left a word or two for teachers as well. Rather, he could have addressed teachers. Or is he planning a teacher pathshala on 14 November? Also, I cant help but think that this particular speech this afternoon looked more like Modis bid to grab yet another platform to talk out loud.
