Andy update: Another big day for Andy! He went out on the wheelchair again and played catch with a beach ball. Its amazing how a little bit of work wears him out! Im so used to my active boy, but am so excited by all the progress he is already making. He had his last dose of sedation medication today. You might have noticed that he has a hard time focusing. They say that is the effect of the sedation and pain medication. It will still take a couple days to be completely removed from his system, but we are seeing more and more of the boy we know and love. He got a very special visitor today - Darwin Barney, of the LA Dodgers! Darwin used to play for Murrayhill Little League, and some mutual friends were kind enough to arrange a visit. I wish I could have captured how much Andy lit up when he saw Darwin. It made me so happy! Darwin is a fantastic person and we felt so grateful that he was able to be such an encouragement to Andy. They say we will be moved to a regular pediatric ward tomorrow. I have such mixed feelings about this - on one hand, that means Andy is much better and his brothers will be able to finally see him, but I have gotten used to having all the doctors and nurses at my beck and call. :) Seriously, they are such a great team of people in the Peds ICU and I will miss all of their expert advice, understanding and kindness. On a different note, we received a care package from the Rockaway Beach Police Department, who were the first responders at the beach when Andy got hurt. They heard about how Caleb felt about his response to the accident (thanks so much Julie Winterss husband Billy for contacting them!) and sent the most wonderful note and some gifts for the boys. Caleb couldnt believe it when he read the letter! We plan to visit them when Andy is recovered. Finally, many of you have asked about my sister-in-law, Peggy Wilkinson. I am happy to report that her surgery went very well yesterday and she is already at home recovering. Thanks so much for all your prayers!
