Angel had a troubled past. She grew up and then was a breeder in a puppy mill. Wound up in a hoarder type rescue, escaped an adoptive home and made it back to said rest after first lasting herself in animal control. Then finally came to live with me after no one decided they were up for the task of such a special needs dog. Shell never be normal but has come so incredibly far and still continues to grow thanks to: Making sure she feels safe. Using counter conditioning with desensitization so questionable things/experiences predict a fabulous outcome. Using positive reinforcement so that learning is a positive and safe experience. Not denying her the access to carefully considered psychotropic medications, as she still suffered from some unresolved anxiety and compulsive behaviors despite behavior modification. Thanks to the above, she can explore, within reason, what the world outside the puppy mill has to offer in a safe and positive light.
