Anita, Teddy and I had an amazing trip at Puzzle Lake Provincial - TopicsExpress

Anita, Teddy and I had an amazing trip at Puzzle Lake Provincial Park, except for one thing. We called it, The Trip that Ticked Us Off. We couldnt have given it a better name. On the first day, at the put-in, we spoke to a fellow just out for the day with his canoe. He was a hunter and was just spotting for deer. (The hunting was going on in full over the weekend, as gun shots rang out throughout the trip.) He asked us about our trip and told us we would have the place to ourselves, but gave us one stern warning. The ticks were bad - great. We even forgot the tick remover. Sigh. If you remember a past post, I showed my first ever tick bite from the Queen Elizabeth Wildlands PP in the spring. It was a bit of a shock then, but now, we all had to be very aware. (Mid-October, really?!?) True to the fellows word, on day two, I spotted the first tick on Teddys face. Anita ripped it to shreds. (Hmmm, better not piss her off.) Teddy got the most, as he often ran through the undergrowth chasing squirrels and chipmunks, but we both got them on us as well. One evening, Anita pulled off half a dozen from Teddy before bed. One got him on top of his head, but unfortunately, Anita only managed to pull the body off. (We are still dealing with it.) Throughout the rest of the trip, we pulled off a total of two dozen. They were everywhere. Every itch and discomfort on our bodies had us checking ourselves, as we were becoming paranoid. What a pain! Despite this, we still managed to have a great time. Although, I wonder if this is now going to be the norm for tripping in southern Ontario? Routine body checks, especially in cracks and crevices? Someone wrote on the thunder box at the Loyst Lake campsite stating, Ticks found at this site. We can say with even more certainly, No kidding! Be aware folks, get informed AND get yourself a tick remover!
