Another blessed day for the Dowling family! My kids made it safely to North Carolina, yesterday, to visit my Aunt and Uncle. We had planned a family trip to spend time with them at their lake house during the 4th of July, but obviously that had to be canceled. Bill loves it there! We went last summer, and it was so relaxing and fun. My Dad, Aunt and Uncle decided that the kids needed to have that vacation after all, and flew them out there for some fun in the sun. There is so much fun stuff to do at their house. It’s like Disney on the Lake! I am so grateful that the kids got the opportunity to go and take their minds off of this, if only for a few days. (The picture of Bill was from Lake Gaston last summer, and the picture of the kids is from Lake Gaston yesterday) Good memories! We were also very honored today to be one of the first recipients of the Brothers Helping Brothers relief fund. Some of Bills closes friends, and also some other wonderful people, who volunteered a very large chunk of their time to create an organization to help aid the families of injured firefighters, started this organization. As easy as it would be to dwell on the horrible circumstances our family has had to face, I only feel blessings. God has showered us with blessing after blessing! I know that when this is all said and done, Bill will be giving God a shout out for turning this situation into something positive. Today the Physical Therapist was off, so Bill stayed in bed all day. We made it back just in time to see his speech therapist working with him. She said she that she is amazed at how much he has managed to accomplish in 3 days. She also was impressed by his work ethics. I’ve been saying all along, if Bill can remember who and how he was before the brain injury, he will work his butt off to get well. I’ve had several members of the staff tell me that I wasn’t lying when I told them that. That’s my baby! I thank God each day for all the hurdles that Bill is clearing. I also thank God for all of you that are praying for, caring about and loving Bill. Thank you!
