Another central PA victim of abuse ~ Charlotte. The first two photos are her the day I picked her up from hell in Lebanon, at 9 months old. She was literally sitting in a crate, so hungry she was emaciated and her muscles atrophied, she was covered in urine burns and bed sores, and couldnt walk because she abuse caused nerve damage to the nerves that run from her spine down the insides of her thighs. She was completely shut down and stared into the air, not responsive to being spoken to or to treats being offered to her. Her body could not tolerate food so she had to eat very small portions of boiled chicken and she was so sick she was unable to go to the hospital because she couldnt receive vaccinations. When she was well enough for an orthopedic consult it was discovered that she will one day need a hip transplant due to lack of nutrition as a puppy. Charlotte spent several months in a fabulous foster home and with lots of vet care, physical therapy, and regular exercise, she was able to build up fabulous muscle tone so that her hip transplant could be delayed for a couple years, but it is inevitable. If any dog would have a reason to lash out at someone, to dislike humans, she would, but in the true nature of dogs she left the past where it belongs - in the past. She has never had a single moment of hate towards anyone. She loves dogs, people, and even kitties. The second two photos are Charlotte post recovery, now living with her forever dad, pittie brother, and kitty siblings ... shes an avid swimmer and dog park regular. The picture of her running through the surf at Myrtle Beach sums up the life she deserves. To think anyone could judge her without ever meeting her, when she is a victim of cruelty at the hands of humans, is personally offensive to me. Pennlive never published a story about her narrowing escaping death alone in a crate here in PA.
