Another sign of the changing times: the giant drug store chain CVS - TopicsExpress

Another sign of the changing times: the giant drug store chain CVS announced that it will stop selling cigarettes by October. They say they’re trying to become more of a health care provider, so cigarettes have no place there. I assume they’ll keep selling candy bars, soda and chips, though. Meanwhile, the radio industry is having an internal debate over whether to accept ads for marijuana in states that have legalized it. But you’re not likely to hear any spots for Harry’s Friendly Pot Shop anytime soon. Pot advertising is still banned even in Colorado, and since pot is still illegal under federal law, stations might lose their FCC licenses if they advertise it. So for the time being, the closest radio will come to airing commercials for marijuana will be when they play Grateful Dead records.
