My grandfather was a 50 year member of King Edward Lodge #28 A.F. A.W. in Greenwood B.C. His name was Cyril Robertson. I live in Ontario, Canada, just outside of Toronto. I am reaching out to you in hopes that you may be able to help my husband, my son & I. We suffered a house fire one week before our son was born. We lost everything. We were basically left hung out to dry by our insurance company by no fault of our own. We were forced to get lawyers. Once the insurance company finally did pay our settlement (which was about half of what we should have received) we lost almost half of that to various legal fees. It took them almost two and a half years to pay that settlement also. It has been over three years now. My husband & I are still sleeping on seperate couches at my parents home. We have been slowly doing most of the work ourselves because our settlement was so low. Some people in our community did a few fundraisers & we have a facebook page with over 1000 likes. With little experience in the fundraising department, it has been a very rough go. The last online fundraiser we ran only raised $145. We are going to try again. The key to these fundraisers is networking. I am reaching out to you today in a desperate plea to help us network through your online/Freemason community. I am hoping that my grandfathers involvement in this community may open your heart to help us. Last year there was a lady on a bus who had been bullied by children. An anonymous person saw her story & ran an Indiegogo online fundraiser for her. It went viral. Over one million dollars was raised for her in under a week. The average contribution was $5. We are not looking to raise anywhere near that. We just need some help sharing our campaign & story. We have some generous friends & people from the community who have donated their services to help with the building process. However we need to raise money for materials. If it were just my husband & I, we probably would have given up long ago. But we are desperate to get my son home to his own neighbourhood & his own friends. In the summer months we have been living in the backyard so we can maintain our property & continue the clean up in hopes of rebuilding. My son & ourselves have many friends that we long to get back to. We loved where we lived. The stress of our current living situation is becoming more than we can bare also.
