Any comments, Dear Readers? U.S. Rep. Luke Messer knows it will be difficult to get the Obama administrations support for his proposal to allow states to use billions of dollars in federal funding for charter and private schools. But for now Messer is focused on getting fellow Republicans on board. We have a challenge getting some of our own members up to speed on these issues, Messer said Tuesday at a policy summit sponsored by the conservative Heritage Action for America. The Shelbyville Republican said lawmakers from states that – unlike Indiana – lack robust charter schools or choice programs have a tendency to say, `Well, why would we have anything to say about that? Messer said hes encouraged by the number of potential 2016 presidential candidates who are embracing school choice. But the groundwork needs to be laid now for any major policies that would be enacted after the election, he said. This is the civil rights issue of our time and its a political issue we can win on, Messer said. Lets be the party, the movement, the cause that fights for the American family and makes sure that every American has a real chance to succeed. indystar/story/behind-closed-doors/2015/01/14/messer-wants-gop-lawmakers-on-board-for-charters/21751615/
