Anytime someone uses the word complicated, you can be pretty sure they are lying to you. Due to a complicated set of factors, New England is seeing a constriction in its natural gas supply that is sending energy prices skyrocketing and requiring the region to rely on more carbon-polluting sources like oil and coal. The truth is that progressive states like Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts have refused to let any power generation projects be built so as not to offend their delicate environmental sensibilities. Vermont is closing its locally-hated nuclear station and NH has made life so miserable and expensive for PSNH that its plants have nearly been mothballed. This leaves an unhealthy and volatile reliance on natural gas-fired plants whose fuel source is under attack as well. The short version is your electricity is and will continue to be some of the most expensive in the entire country.
