Apologies for being away: A week of Personal Tragedy... What is - TopicsExpress

Apologies for being away: A week of Personal Tragedy... What is most on my mind is the loss of Father Vincent Doyle... He was a Catholic Priest, Good Guy and my Uncle... He was someone that I respected and who had the most caring heart of one that cares for others in need... Yes, you may have gathered, he died... on Wednesday, twice... In 2009 he celebrated 50 years of service in the Catholic Church and you know that once a priest, always a priest... Yes, he kinda died twice, once when he had a fall, and then when they turned off life support and he kept on living in a sense for a day longer... What I liked about him is that he put others before himself... That he was a teddy bear of a man, quietly spoken and yet in the field of spiritual warfare... We had a lot of discussion on the aspect of spirituality and I liked the fact he had an open mind, yet was still entrenched in the belief that he has... Of course I gave him a well rounded run for his money and yet he was still the priest that he is today... Father Vincent Doyle was a Good Priest in all senses of the word... Something I keep for the Rare few, and he was one of them... I am surprised and disappointed that the Catholic Church does not pay Anything towards his funeral after 54 years of service to the community... After all, Church being about doing the right thing and all I would hope that they would look after one of their most loved sons... Apparently not... Vincent Doyle was brother to my mother, missionary to Papua New Guinea, parish priest of Bellingen, Wauchope, Maclean and Bangalow & Byron Bay... His first act was to marry my parents and then went on from there to most of his family and my extended... Marriages, christenings and so much more... He would happily travel for all... The Funeral of my father he was there... He attended all the significant events of a persons life... I would like to honour his... I remember when he came back from New Guinea after 5 years with all sorts of artefacts to sort out, including the hidden one within his body in the form of malaria that he endured for the rest of his life... Such a quiet man with a voice that could have a silent edge to it when needed, patient and understanding at the same time... Someone to miss... My hope is that he achieved what he wanted and is in the place that best befits his wonderful being as the person that he is.... The Wonderful Father Vincent Doyle... For those that wish to attend his funeral... 11.00am next Tuesday 2nd September at St Carthage’s Cathedral, Lismore followed by burial at Northern Rivers Memorial Park, South Gundurimba. It will be celebrated by the Bishop Geoffrey Jarrett and the Presbyterium... My memories are of the sly grin and that laugh that moved like a small tremor to his Buddha like belly... Wishing You Peace Uncle Vince... Lots of love Gerry Tye
