Apparently I was nominated for the #ALSicebucketthing. Thanks to Katherine Lee for tagging me, and congrats to the ALS Association for coming up with the best social media campaign ever. However, instead of startling my nervous system, Ive chosen to donate (pay no attention to the fact that I dont have a bucket and have no other choice). Rather than regaling you with endless paragraphs on why I chose to do so, I offer just one thought: the money that you donate now, and potentially in the future as well, is going towards scientific research to eliminate a terrible disease. I dont want to preach about a responsibility to volunteer or donate or even care about this in the long term -- what you do with your life is up to you. Id just like to point out that these donations are funding experiments, promoting science, and ultimately about moving humanity forward. And thats a simply beautiful thing. Because of that, I will be donating (I promise, its open in a different tab). And because of that, I dont intend on tagging anyone. Id like to proffer my alternative: if youre reading this, were probably friends on Facebook. That means that youve been a positive influence in my life, no matter how big or small. Let me try to return that positive force, and ask you to think about how you can contribute to mankind, whatever form that may take. Each one of us has our part to play in the sublime process that is our species development. And together, well make our world the place weve always wanted it to be. TL;DR: Its really not that long, so just read it. But basically, current imaging technology is not sufficiently advanced enough to preserve the raw essence of an ice-soaked Clement, and understanding that, I had to write something sentimental instead.
